“Wahusika” is a Swahili word meaning “the involved ones.” Inspired by the queen’s gardeners who paint white roses red, this ingenious work represents the individuals in a community who uphold appearance rather than reality. The triptych forms a pattern that could continue infinitely, a commentary on how the often arbitrary decisions made by those in power can have a tremendous impact on the lives of those under their rule.
